Somehow Whole follows one person's way through closeness, distance, and the break that comes after. It ends somewhere quieter: with someone who has stopped trying to erase the pieces and has learned to carry them all.

Hung in order, the paintings move from fragments to a single figure in a single color.

About the artist

Ismael Abrego is an Austin-based contemporary artist exploring identity, vulnerability, desire, and the contradictions of human experience. Working across painting, mixed media, ceramics, and interactive art, Abrego combines expressive forms and symbolism to ask viewers what is visible and what remains beneath the surface.

Abrego works in technology by day and makes art by night.
